The Douglas Stewart String
Orchestra was established in the early 1920's
by Douglas Stewart, a renowned Canadian violinist
from eastern Ontario. During his reign as music
director, the orchestra grew to over 150 string
musicians, all of them hand picked by Stewart
himself. This private orchestra for elite violinists
was taken over by Kenneth Yunke in 1970. The traditions
of breath taking recitals and performances at
the Orpheum, Queen Elizabeth Theatre and Hotel
Vancouver continued until 1996 when Kenneth Yunke
and his prized students played for the final time
at Canada Place. This website recognizes the achievements
and performances of Canada's most elite youth
orchestra of all time.
The main purpose of the website was to recognize
Canada’s most elite youth orchestra that
played for the final time at Canada Place in 1996.
Kenneth Yunke, the last conductor, wanted an interactive
Flash website that would showcase the great achievements
and breath-taking performances of his orchestra.
As well, the website had to cater to all audiences
around the world. Identity and logo development
were other requirements of this project.

4AM Group worked closely with Kenneth Yunke and
the Douglas Stewart String Orchestra to develop
a contemporary and interactive Flash historical
website. The inclusion of historical photos, crisp
recordings from past performances and an interactive
user controlled orchestra were used to reflect
the unique stature of the orchestra and its members.
The final result is a highly interactive, streamlined
and clean website that targets a world wide audience;
comprised of any age, gender and nationality.
Website traffic to the site was unbelievable with
over one hundred and fifty unique visitors in
the first week of the launch date. Feedback has
been astonishing; most people enjoyed the interactivity,
movement, colours and identity development of
the website. Overall, the website has captivated
users from all over the world with great user
experiences and music.
